More About The Greencastle People's Office
The Greencastle People’s Office was set up on the 4th February 2018 to stop a Canadian Gold Mining company called Dalradain Gold who has put in a planning application in for a Gold mine, processing plant ( cyanide has recently been removed from the application, but company refuses to say it will not use it further down the line) where the GPO sits on Dalradain proposed site it is facing the proposed tailings waste management faculty (waste rock) which will be 17 stories high and 1200m from the primary school, playing fields and church.
The GPO arrival stopped this Mining company from causing any further destruction to this beautiful part of the Sperrins mountains. The camp is manned 24 hrs by locals, it is the vocal point of the anti mining campaign, a place where groups and individuals who are against the destruction of Gold Mining can meet and chat, everyone is welcomed and the kettle never cools.
Since opening we have had many guests from throughout the world and hosted many a great party. Of course we have faced the usual mining companies tactics which are well documented world wide of bullying and intimidation, attempts to move us, online trolling even death threats but this just makes us more determined to rid ourselves of these parasites.
The GPO will remain until Dalradian Gold packs up and leaves our land, air and water alone. As we Look at it your health is your wealth, gold mining is a dirty toxic industry which brings a lot of social and health problems to the communities affected, problems that can last for many generations, it is something this country does not need.
We know Dalradian is the key, if their planning application is accepted, the door will open for many more mining companies. PF Anderson CEO of Dalradian is quoted as saying’ I’m not looking at one mine but a mining camp’
